Grounds Person Tree Care

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform basic ground-level tree care operations in support of pruning, removal, and maintenance activities
• Operate powered equipment such as woodchippers, trucks, and blowers safely and effectively
• Use hand tools like hand saws, pole pruners, rakes, and shovels for tree care tasks
• Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as per industry and company standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and secure job site
• Implement traffic and pedestrian control measures to protect the work zone

Education And Experience

• Follow established directions and procedures related to roping and rigging, maintenance, equipment adjustments, and reporting of malfunctioning or unsafe equipment
• Perform basic arithmetic involving weight, volume, and distance
• Estimate or calculate measurements relevant to arboricultural field operations
• Apply critical thinking to interpret and carry out instructions
• Complete standardized tasks with competence, adapting to occasional field variables as needed
• Communicate with climbers and other crew members using standardized hand signals
• Communicate with the general public to provide clear direction and ensure safety around the work zone

Physical Demands/Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
• At least 18 years old (21 if operating company provided vehicles)
• Strong stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Able to safely operate landscaping equipment
• Able to bend, stop, and twist continuously throughout the day
• Able to perform manual labor using a variety of hand tools
• Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Valid driver's license required for operating company provided vehicles
• Able to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays if needed
• Able to maintain required medications for known allergic reactions

Work Environment

• Outdoor/indoor work in moderate to extreme weather conditions
• Direct sunlight for extended periods
• Near automotive traffic, bodies of water, fumes, dust, mechanical and/or electrical hazards
• Loud noise environments
• Environments with exposure to allergens, insects, and reptiles
