Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as primary point of contact to share information, scheduling, updates, concerns, and priorities between the supervisor and crew.
- Cover maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and city-owned facilities.
- Resurface and renovate playgrounds, fields, and courts.
- Paint buildings, equipment, and parking lots.
- Repair and assemble fences.
- Conduct light plumbing.
- Operate or use various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments.
- Communicate with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Conduct a variety of landscaping duties.
- Mow grass, plant flowers and shrubs, edge curb lines, and weed eat around signs and fence lines.
- Clear leaves, tree limbs, and other debris from park areas.
- Spread and haul ground cover, dirt, and mulch.
- Operate a city vehicle as needed.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
- Process a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
- Receive and review various documentation including work orders.
- Conduct general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Initiate orders materials and equipment needed for each job.
- Conduct routine safety inspections on equipment.
- Provide direction, training, and assistance to employees on an assigned project.
- Cook daily reports for each employee to complete tasks each day.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor work environment and use of safety equipment.
- Conduct general custodial duties as various parks and city-owned facilities.
- Clean parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, and other areas.
- Vacuum carpets, scrub, and wax floors.
- Dusts, wash windows, and empty trash.
Minimum Education and Training
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- One (1) year of experience in parks and grounds maintenance.
- A valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history is required.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
- Physical Requirements: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work. Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
