Grounds Maintenance Team Member, Second Shift

Multiple shifts available. Starting pay: $15 an hour.

Responsibilities

• Maintains Zoo grounds (e.g. picks up litter/manure and cleans tables/benches/restrooms/walkways)
• Hangs and takes down light strands and shapes for nighttime events (e.g. Wildlights, Zoofari)
• Assists with special maintenance projects (painting, fence repair, bench repair, snow shoveling, general repairs)
• Sets up and takes down tables/chairs/tents for special events
• Performs administrative office duties
• Provides support for all special events (e.g. Zoofari, Jazzoo)
• Maintains shop area and equipment (e.g. washing, routine maintenance)
• Assures safety of self, the collection, staff, and visitors through proper safety training and techniques around animals, equipment, and vehicles
• Interacts with guests (e.g. answers questions, gives directions)
• Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible
• Performs other duties as assigned

Posted schedule may be subject to change based on operational needs such as weather conditions, guest attendance, and department needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Maintenance experience preferred
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record required
• New-hire TB testing required
• Able to climb ladders and work in high and/or enclosed spaces
• Able to operate motorized equipment
• Able to perform heavy physical work for extended periods of time
• Able to balance multiple assignments successfully
• Able to work in varied weather conditions (e.g. extreme heat, rain)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards
• Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior
• Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance (see uniform guidelines in the employee handbook)
• Availability on weekends and holidays is mandatory
• Subject to BMV check, Drug-Free Workplace Policy, and criminal background check

Pay

$15 an hour
