Grounds Maintenance Crew Leader - Building & Grounds

About the role

This is a full-time position that supervises and participates in the work of a grounds maintenance crew.

Responsibilities

• Directs, assigns, supervises, and participates in the work of a grounds maintenance crew
• Plans weekly work schedules
• Operates light and heavy machinery including commercial mowers, backhoes, tractors, weed eaters, blowers, and others
• Participates in the application of herbicides and pesticides
• Repairs fences, playground equipment, and sidewalks
• Installs and maintains irrigation systems
• Refurbishes sports fields
• Lays sod
• Aerates and top dresses fields
• Removes litter and trash from parks and county buildings
• Installs landscaping
• Prunes trees and shrubs
• Delivers voting booths to precinct locations
• Raises and lowers flags at county buildings
• Pours concrete
• Vacuums leaves
• Performs safety checks on equipment, fences, playground equipment, and other facilities
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Special Certifications and Licenses

• Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license (Class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in compliance with County Safety and Loss Control Guidelines
• Completion of the State of Georgia Department of Transportation Defensive Driving Course and/or Emergency Vehicle Operation Certification within twelve (12) months of employment
• Possession of a Class A CDL and a Commercial Pesticide Application License

Pay

Starting salary: $47,974.04
