Grounds Laborer - Full-Time, Days

About the role

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity at UChicago Medicine's Hyde Park campus. The Grounds Laborer is an SEIU Local 73 bargaining union position responsible for maintaining the Medical Center grounds.

Responsibilities

• Applies pre-mixed herbicides to prevent and control weeds and other unwanted vegetation.
• Maintains planters and plant beds.
• Uses power and hand tools to cut lawns and trim hedges, edge grass, weed plant beds, and assist in planting areas.
• Cuts down wild trees.
• Rakes and removes trash, litter, and leaves with hand operated equipment.
• Removes snow from walks, driveways, egress paths, and approved paths with mechanized and hand operated equipment.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks on hand operated and mechanized equipment.
• Aids in repairing, commissioning, and winterizing sprinkler systems.
• Keeps work areas neat, clean, and safe.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3-5 years’ experience in a position performing manual labor
• 2 years of commercial grounds, landscaping, and snow removal experience
• Knowledge of use and maintenance and repair of power tools, hand tools, and mechanized equipment used to maintain Medical Center exterior grounds
• Able to lift 50 lbs and stand and walk for up to 2 hours at a time
• Able to work weekends and callouts/overtime as directed during snow removal
• Able to work outside for up to 3 hours in all types of weather

Qualifications

Pay

The pay range for this position is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed annually. The pay range is based on the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. The pay offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.

Schedule

The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) with days shift of 8-hour duration.
