Grounds Keeper

Primary Duties

• Maintain lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, parking lots, and sidewalks using hand and power tools, landscaping machinery, and related equipment.
• Ensure the Capitol Complex is properly cared for and maintained.

Additional Duties

• Lift furniture and complete office moves when required.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license.

Skills

• Ability to work as part of a team or individually with general instructions.
• Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
• Skill to provide good customer service and tact when interacting with other state agencies, co-workers, and public.
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather; follow instructions; perform heavy lifting (50+ lbs.) and physical labor; operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools, and related equipment.

Pay and Schedule

• Salary: $16.68-$19.62 per hour, depending on qualifications.
• Pay Grade: D.
• Work hours: Generally 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, incumbents must be able to work outside the normal schedule as needed.
• Ability to work in inclement weather when conditions require.

Requirements

• The position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
