About the Role
Maintains the Resort landscaping and surrounding areas, including planting and maintaining new and existing vegetation.
Responsibilities
- Cutting lawns with push mowers and riding mowers.
- Maintaining trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
- Assist in annual flower plantings.
- Cleans grounds and assists in leaf removal.
- Shovels snow from walks and parking lots.
- Spreads salt/sand on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Waters lawn and shrubs.
- Repair irrigation lines and helps identify problems.
- Mixes and applies appropriate pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides if certified.
- Under the direction of the Grounds Manager and Director of Facilities, plans and sets up holiday decorations.
- Assists with special projects.
- Assist in eradication of invasive species across the resort.
Work Environment
Workers spend approximately 90% of their time outdoors in the field and 10% indoors. They are required to work independently and as part of a team on grounds and special projects.
Requirements
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and nights if needed.
- Must have the ability to learn how to operate maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to follow instructions.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team.
- General understanding of landscape plants and their care.
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance (desirable).
- Strong understanding of all plants, including natives and their care (desirable).
Physical Abilities
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds overhead.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and work extended hours in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk long distances, bend, and shovel.
- Must be able to operate and drive a golf cart.
- Able to read and follow directions.
Safety Responsibilities
- Learn and comply with all Resort safety rules.
- Use appropriate safety equipment at all times.
- Immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Be familiar with all safety features of equipment, machinery, or materials encompassed by job duties.
- Check with supervisor if there is a question about the safe procedure for any job function.
