Grounds Keeper

About the Role

Maintains the Resort landscaping and surrounding areas, including planting and maintaining new and existing vegetation.

Responsibilities

• Cutting lawns with push mowers and riding mowers.
• Maintaining trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
• Assist in annual flower plantings.
• Cleans grounds and assists in leaf removal.
• Shovels snow from walks and parking lots.
• Spreads salt/sand on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
• Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Waters lawn and shrubs.
• Repair irrigation lines and helps identify problems.
• Mixes and applies appropriate pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides if certified.
• Under the direction of the Grounds Manager and Director of Facilities, plans and sets up holiday decorations.
• Assists with special projects.
• Assist in eradication of invasive species across the resort.

Work Environment

Workers spend approximately 90% of their time outdoors in the field and 10% indoors. They are required to work independently and as part of a team on grounds and special projects.

Requirements

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and nights if needed.
• Must have the ability to learn how to operate maintenance equipment.
• Must be able to follow instructions.
• Must be able to work independently and as a team.
• General understanding of landscape plants and their care.
• Previous experience in grounds maintenance (desirable).
• Strong understanding of all plants, including natives and their care (desirable).

Physical Abilities

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds overhead.
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and work extended hours in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to walk long distances, bend, and shovel.
• Must be able to operate and drive a golf cart.
• Able to read and follow directions.

Safety Responsibilities

• Learn and comply with all Resort safety rules.
• Use appropriate safety equipment at all times.
• Immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors.
• Be familiar with all safety features of equipment, machinery, or materials encompassed by job duties.
• Check with supervisor if there is a question about the safe procedure for any job function.
