Grounds Caretaker at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary

Part-time seasonal position at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary.

About the Role

The role primarily focuses on the newly built Cabin facilities of JBERD at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary. The Grounds Keeper will assist with maintenance of Sanctuary properties and cleaning outside of the cabin complex as needed. Position hours have some flexibility; a split shift could be considered.

Responsibilities

• Clean Cabin Complex facilities including: daily bathroom facility cleaning, cabin surfaces, floors, and windows, removal of trash and recycling, cleaning cabin exteriors and gutters, etc.
• Additional cleaning at other Sanctuary facilities as needed.
• Weed, mow, trim, and bushhog the grounds around the Cabin Complex and other Sanctuary properties, including gardens and landscaped areas.
• Maintain Cabin Complex and Sanctuary infrastructure, which may include minor building and boardwalk repairs.
• Trail maintenance, including removal of fallen and dead trees and trimming of vegetation.
• Split wood to stock the Cabin Complex’s wood demand.
• Basic equipment and truck maintenance, including fueling and general upkeep of vehicles.
• Assist with Sanctuary special events and programs as needed.

Requirements

• Experience performing park maintenance-related work, including maintaining grounds and/or facilities.
• Knowledge of operating tractors, mowers, chainsaws, weedwhackers, power tools, etc.
• Valid driver's license.
• Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Excellent team player and work ethic.
• Conservation-minded.

About The Sanctuary

The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is a 1,800-acre Natural Area in southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The Sanctuary is operated by the county’s Department of Recreation and Parks and is part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Maryland. Thousands of visitors, school children, university students, and volunteers, along with many government resource agencies and conservation organizations, visit the Sanctuary every year to learn about and study the natural world and to participate in citizen science and stewardship projects. Our mission is to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of estuarine and other natural ecosystems and their conservation through outdoor education, research, stewardship, and volunteering.
