Ground Test Inspector (Avionics)

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility A320 is seeking a Ground Test Inspector to join the Manufacturing Department in Mobile, AL. This role is critical in the Final Assembly Line, focusing on planning, executing, and validating aircraft systems tests to ensure conformity with design specifications.

As an Avionics Test Technician (Ground Test Performer), you will demonstrate aircraft systems compliance through the Airbus Test System. When deviations occur, you will isolate, document, and resolve issues to uphold safety and performance standards.

Your working environment

The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility, located at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. This facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and supports Airbus’ global competitiveness.

Responsibilities

• Execute Avionics and System Testing (80%):
  • Prepare aircraft and workstation for safe testing of avionics and systems.
  • Perform function tests on systems such as flight controls, navigation, and passenger entertainment in parallel with aircraft assembly.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot aircraft systems and test environments with engineering teams.
  • Document non-conformities in the SAP NC system and initiate retests after rework completion.
  • Clarify and improve test instructions and systems with engineering teams.
• Training others:
  • A320-specific aircraft systems.
  • Safe operations and Airbus Operating System processes.
  • Safety protocols.
• Ensure Safety (10%):
  • Maintain safety for personnel and aircraft during all production phases.
  • Review planned work activities and perform Safety Risk Analysis.
  • Configure aircraft to facilitate safe work activities.
  • Document and track aircraft configuration and testing status.
  • Participate in problem-solving for identified safety risks.
• Planning (10%):
  • Coordinate daily testing with Operations, Engineering, and Planning teams.
  • Track Non-Conformities impacting testing.
  • Identify internal problems to improve the "On Time On Quality" production process.
  • Propose opportunities for productivity and efficiency enhancements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED.
  • Ability to complete Airbus-provided trainings post-recruitment (Health & Safety, General aircraft familiarization, Quality Training).
  • Preferred: Vocational training or prior employer training in application tools and techniques.
• Experience:
  • Required: 5 years in aviation (avionics, systems, or Cabin systems).
  • 2 years minimum as an Aircraft Avionics Technician, focusing on aircraft systems (electrical preferred).
  • 2 years minimum in troubleshooting aircraft systems.
  • Knowledge of station safety, quality (clean-as-you-go/FOD), and OSHA regulations.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe operational condition.
  • Basic avionic troubleshooting and experience with tools for electrical/data failure isolation.
  • Effective verbal/written communication and computer proficiency.
  • Preferred: A320 or Airbus aircraft experience.
  • Preferred: Avionics or Cabin system experience in Production or Maintenance environments.
• Travel: 5% domestic and international.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

• Hearing: Participate in conversations, teleconferences, and hear production floor sounds/safety alarms.
• Speaking: Engage in conversations, meetings, and communications.
• Equipment Operation: Operate office/personal electronics and production tools (e.g., hydraulic lifts).
• Carrying/Lifting: Carry/lift documents, tools, or equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
• Pushing/Pulling: Move small office furniture, equipment, and tools.
• Sitting: Prolonged periods in meetings or at a computer.
• Squatting/Kneeling: Retrieve/replace items from low shelving.
• Standing: Discussions in offices or on the production floor.
• Travel/Mobility: Independent travel at short notice.
• Walking: Navigate office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
