Ground Support Equipment Maintenance Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused, and mechanically inclined Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate enjoys troubleshooting mechanical issues, takes pride in maintaining equipment reliability, and is committed to supporting a safe and efficient operation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and electrical systems on GSE and company vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company maintenance programs.
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering components, batteries, electrical systems, and related equipment.
- Conduct tire inspections, repairs, replacements, and inflation checks.
- Perform fluid level inspections, lubrication, oil changes, and filter replacements.
- Utilize diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and related instruments to identify equipment deficiencies.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and service calls to minimize operational disruptions.
- Maintain equipment readiness to support aircraft ground handling and fueling operations.
- Accurately complete maintenance records, equipment logbooks, inspection reports, and work orders.
- Assist Facilities personnel with general maintenance, escorting, and repair projects as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment in accordance with safety requirements.
- Participate in required training programs and safety meetings.
- Document repairs, parts usage, maintenance activities, and equipment deficiencies.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, manufacturer guidelines, OSHA requirements, airport regulations, environmental standards, and safety procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or maintenance concerns.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance priorities to management.
- Clock in and out as needed.
- Coordinate with operations personnel to schedule repairs and minimize downtime.
- Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies, tools, parts, and equipment.
- Support emergency response activities related to equipment failures and operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Technical, automotive, diesel, industrial maintenance, or related training preferred. 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a mechanic on heavy equipment, diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and/or vehicles. Direct GSE/airport ground support equipment, trucks, construction, or military equipment preferred. Prior airport exposure or experience with aviation specific equipment (tugs, belt loaders, GPUs, etc.), or fuel handling awareness preferred.
- Skills & Competencies: Proficient and practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment. Ability to read technical manuals, maintenance instructions, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking and recordkeeping. Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Certifications, Licenses, & Badging: Ability to attain Love Field Badge. Valid Driver's License with clean record. ASE or other relevant diesel/heavy equipment certifications preferred but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to various weather conditions. Work is performed primarily outdoors on airport ramps, fuel farms, hangars, maintenance shops, and operational facilities.
- The employee will frequently be exposed to loud noise levels in and around their work environment.
- The physical demands are regularly very active and while performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders or equipment. Reach above shoulder level and work in confined spaces. Use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally more with assistance. Work around moving mechanical equipment and vehicles. Distinguish colors, gauges, warning lights, and instrument readings. Maintain physical stamina to perform repetitive and physically demanding work throughout a shift.
Additional Notes
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments based on operational needs.
- Candidates with less direct experience may be considered and developed into the role.
- Requirements: Valid Driver's License with clean driving record. Ability to attain and maintain Love Field Badge and ramp access. Must be available to work a variety of shifts; including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
