Responsibilities
- Meet minimum production standards for department
- Properly identify, orient, ink, and trim submitted tissues per SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and related protocols while ensuring the utmost quality
- Produce accurate and legible grossing notes with code description that provide the Pathologist with a clear understanding of the sections taken
- Communicate with and respond to Pathologists, transcription, and Lab Coordinator email communications
- Identify problems and special handling cases
- Trim tissue for specific re-gross requests when requested in a timely manner
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of various machines and equipment
- Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
- Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor
- Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
- Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures
- Maintains clean and organized work area
- Restocks supplies as needed
- Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
- Consults with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree in science, Biology or other Life Sciences strongly preferred
- Coursework in anatomy / physiology required
Qualifications
- Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments
- Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
- Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment
- Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information
- Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
- Positive, can-do attitude
- Utilize personal computer skills, including fast and accurate typing, to input data efficiently
- Required to lift, move, and carry up to 40 lbs
