Grossing Histologic Technician

About the role

Seeking a motivated and experienced Histology Grossing Technician with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be team‑oriented, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and able to effectively prioritize workload in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Accurate receipt, identification, gross examination, dissection, photography, and processing of low‑ to moderate‑complexity tissue specimens in accordance with departmental policies and quality standards.
• Perform specimen grossing, including photography and preparation of related surgical pathology reports.
• Answer questions from attending pathologists regarding the dictation and orientation of gross surgical specimens.
• Accession surgical pathology specimens.
• Assist in compiling data for Surgical Pathology Quality Assurance reports.
• Maintain and update the Department's gross specimen handbook.
• Perform regular equipment maintenance and troubleshoot equipment.
• Act as a liaison between the pathology department and hospital staff.
• Support the operations of the anatomic pathology lab and histology department as requested.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a Biological Science from a regionally accredited college/university (required).
• Two years' grossing experience (preferred).
• HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification (preferred).
• Previous experience with Epic and laboratory information systems (preferred).
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
• No weekend, holiday, or call responsibilities required for this position.

• Knowledge and experience with personal computers including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and statistics.
• Experience beyond the minimum.
