About the role

Grocery Shopper Volunteers assist clients in our Older Adult Services & Mental Health Programs by grocery shopping on a bi-weekly basis. Volunteers will receive a grocery list for their client and drop off groceries at their home. In some cases, clients may accompany volunteers to shop if agreed upon by both parties and social workers. This role requires a valid driver’s license, an insured vehicle, and a commitment to a bi-weekly schedule of 1.5–2 hours per shift.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with grocery shopping and delivery on a bi-weekly basis.
• Receive and fulfill grocery lists for clients, ensuring timely drop-off at their homes.
• Accompany clients to grocery stores when sanctioned by both parties and social workers.
• Support clients with mobility issues during outings, if applicable.
• Create a welcoming, respectful, and compassionate environment for clients.
• Provide companionship and foster a friendly atmosphere during interactions.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle.
• Strong communication and active listening skills.
• Patience, compassion, and respect for clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to commit to a bi-weekly schedule of 1.5–2 hours per shift.
• Must pass a criminal record check (cost not reimbursed).
• Open to volunteers aged 18–30, 31–54, or 55+.

Schedule
