Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return.
- Aid the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals.
- Maintain quality assurance standards.
- Direct and supervise department functions, duties, and activities.
- Support day-to-day grocery operations.
- Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Collaborate with associates to help achieve company/store goals.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
- Create a welcoming environment for customers.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold in the department.
- Order, label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, balers, u-boats, compactors, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Monitor and control department expenses.
- Note and report any discrepancies in inventory.
- Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
- Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
- Understand and adhere to POS system policies and procedures.
- Handle various tender types and understand company limits on cash shortages/overages.
- Adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items and food safety regulations.
- Ensure proper temperatures and maintain temperature logs.
- Comply with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions.
- Report accidents and illegal activity to management.
Requirements
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction).
- At least 18 years old.
- Current food handlers permit.
- Desired: High school education or equivalent.
- Management experience preferred.
- Retail and/or Grocery experience preferred.
