About the role
Sprouts Farmers Market is looking for a Grocery Manager to oversee the sales and operations of multiple customer-focused departments—Grocery, Dairy, Frozen Food, and Beer/Wine—in a fast-paced, friendly retail environment. You will lead a team responsible for delivering an extraordinary customer service experience while maintaining freshness, safety, and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper handling, rotation, and freshness of products; perform date controls
- Control costs by monitoring operations, managing labor, and reducing shrink, damage, and pilferage
- Prepare the store for physical inventory counts and assist with unloading trucks, verifying deliveries against invoices, and reporting shortages or overages
- Oversee ordering, compliance, back-room inventory, and department safety
- Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one development discussions; recommend merit increases during bi-annual reviews
- Participate in in-store meetings and collaborate with the Store Manager on hiring, promotions, and transfers
- Address team member concerns, take corrective action when needed, and escalate performance issues as required
- Create and adjust schedules to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to the team
- Lead a collaborative team to deliver the highest quality products, service, and customer experience
- Act as a Key Carrier and Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- 1 year of managerial or supervisory experience in a multi-department retail, hospitality, or service environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to give and take direction in a team setting
- Outgoing, friendly demeanor with a positive attitude and customer-first mindset
- Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff; working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Food Safety certification and adherence to federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
- Strong organization and planning skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9” to 62” for up to 25 hours
- Ability to vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5” to 34” for up to 5 feet without mechanical assistance
- Repetitive squatting, kneeling, and bending to access points 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours
- Flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
