Grocery Manager

About the role

As a Grocery Manager at Sprouts Farmers Market, you will oversee the sales and operations of multiple customer-focused departments, including Grocery, Dairy, Frozen Food, and Beer/Wine. This role involves ensuring product freshness, controlling costs, managing labor, and leading a team to deliver an extraordinary customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure products are handled properly, rotated for freshness, and date controls are performed.
• Control costs by monitoring and improving operations to increase profitability, including managing labor and reducing shrink, damage, and pilferage.
• Assist in preparing the store for physical inventory counts.
• Oversee or assist with unloading trucks from distribution centers, verify deliveries against invoices, and report shortages or overages to suppliers.
• Manage ordering, compliance, sanitation, back-room inventory, and department safety.
• Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one development discussions, including completing bi-annual performance reviews and recommending merit increases.
• Regularly attend and participate in in-store meetings.
• Recruit, hire, and make promotion/transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
• Exercise independent judgment to address team member concerns and document corrective actions, including collaboration with HR for performance management.
• Ensure maximum productivity and efficiency by creating and adjusting schedules and staffing levels.
• Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
• Lead a team to deliver high-quality products, exceptional service, and a great customer experience.
• Serve as a Key Carrier for the store and/or act as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.
• Maintain Food Safety certification and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with 1 year of managerial or supervisory experience in a multi-department retail, hospitality, or service industry.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to give and take direction in a team environment.
• Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude and ability to interact with customers.
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff, with knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Physical ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9” to 62” for up to 25 hours.
• Ability to vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5” to 34” for a distance up to 5 feet for up to 25 hours without mechanical assistance.
• Repetitive squatting, kneeling, or bending to access points 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
