Grocery Fifth Person
Purpose
Aids the Grocery Manager in overseeing the Grocery Department (Frozen, Dairy & Liquor/Beer), supervising staff, and assisting in various operational tasks.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Champions customer service initiatives to meet divisional goals.
- Handles customer relations positively, resolving complaints effectively.
- Promotes Albertson's/Safeway's personalized service philosophy.
- Performs ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising duties.
- Assists the Grocery Manager in planning, organizing, and directing daily operations.
- Implements Company and Division merchandising policies and Store Director instructions.
- Makes recommendations for merchandise requirements and special sales.
- Engages in suggestive selling and sales techniques.
- Manages cash register detail tapes, handles cash transactions, and implements price changes.
- Prepares “to do” lists for night stockers, closes out discontinued items, and controls shrinkage.
- Prevents the sale of out-of-code products.
- Ensures store compliance with Company policies, including sanitation, safety, and security.
- Recommends corrective actions and implements emergency procedures.
- Supervises employees and handles customer complaints in the absence of the Store Director and Grocery Manager.
- Performs duties of the Receiving Clerk in the absence of the Receiving Clerk.
- Performs all job duties accurately, honestly, and with integrity.

- Extensive retail background with prior management experience.

- Knowledge of check stand scanning and loss prevention procedures.
- Ability to operate and train others in the operation of Front End cash registers and/or scanning equipment.
- Knowledge and ability to implement emergency procedures in case of disasters or equipment/software malfunctions.
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
- Mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate work activities.
- Ability to use cleaning supplies and chemicals safely.
- Compliance with all Company policies, including attendance, grooming standards, and dress codes.
Work Environment
Temperature-controlled store environment. Occasional exposure to outdoor environments with varying temperatures.
