Grocery/Bulk Assistant

About the Role

The Grocery/Bulk Assistant supports the Grocery/Bulk Manager in operating and ensuring the profitability of the Grocery/Bulk department.

Responsibilities

• Provide world-class customer service as the top priority.

• Create inviting, fully stocked, and shoppable departments.
• Assist the Grocery/Bulk Manager in ordering, maintaining accurate inventory, and managing department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
• Ensure all in-stock products meet company standards.
• Handle special orders and follow up on them.
• Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
• Assist in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock management.
• Support training and monitoring of department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks.
• Conduct active and passive product demos.
• Work with the department manager to address performance issues.
• Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities.
• Perform register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing complaints, and covering shift changes.
• Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
• Answer customer questions per company standards, including using Health Supportive statements or nutritional support statements.
• Continually increase product knowledge.
• Use SAP, inventory management software, email, and other IS programs as needed.
• Work a flexible schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
• 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Ability to pass food safety training and maintain required certifications.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
• Strong sense of urgency in completing tasks.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Cashier trained and able to count currency.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Pay

USD $19.50 per hour.

Schedule

• Full-time position (40 hours per week, 5 days).
• Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Mandatory attendance at store meetings.
