Grocery Assistant Department Manager

Responsibilities

• Step into a departmental leadership role in the absence of the Department Manager.
• Assign and prioritize worker duties; schedule break periods, work hours, and vacations as needed.
• Assist in creating game plans and plan‑ograms for merchandising based on ads and display profitability.
• Conduct regularly scheduled departmental inventories.
• Train workers in store policies, departmental procedures, and job duties.
• Communicate with Buyers regarding merchandising, new product implementation, and appropriate pricing; promptly follow Buyer directions.
• Understand retail label systems and coordinate with Scan, General Management, and Buying teams to ensure correct pricing.
• Coordinate vendor invoices, SKH invoices, and inter‑company transfers daily to ensure timely billing.
• Follow established departmental cleaning procedures.
• Function as a working manager, performing all tasks necessary for smooth division operation.
• Utilize knowledge of inventories and ordering systems to assist with ordering supplies and merchandise from approved vendors.
• Maintain and operate departmental equipment.
• Resolve incorrect information and ensure accurate pricing.

Requirements

• Previous managerial or grocery experience required.
• Previous power equipment experience required (electric jack, rider jack, lift, etc.).
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lb and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lb.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch, and talk and/or hear while performing duties.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
