Grinding Set Up Technician

About the role

The Grinding Set-Up Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining precision grinding equipment used in the manufacturing of medical device components. This role ensures that machines are correctly configured, parts are manufactured to exact specifications, and all activities are performed in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate grinding machines (e.g., CNC grinders, Rollomatic, centerless, surface, or cylindrical grinders) to produce high quality medical device components
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and process specifications
• Perform machine adjustments, wheel changes, dressing, and offsets to maintain tight tolerances
• Maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and process optimization

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to set up and adjust complex machinery
• Proficiency in reading technical drawings and using precision measuring instruments
• Knowledge of grinding processes, wheel selection, and dressing techniques
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Suite application) for production reporting and quality documentation
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs
• Ability to work with small precision parts under magnification as needed
• Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred
• Minimum 3 years of CNC set-up and precision grinding experience, preferably in the medical device or other highly regulated industry
• Familiarity with medical device quality systems (FDA, ISO 13485) preferred
