About the Role

Performs various skilled tasks necessary to metal finish component parts, transportation tanks, and bottles during the production process. Responsible for examining surface areas and welds to detect defects. The work requires associates to work within confined spaces for periods of up to four (4) hours and demands constant attention to shop activities to avoid injury to self or others.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment prior to beginning work to ensure it is in safe operating condition and that required preventative maintenance checks have been completed.
  • Examine all surface areas and welds to detect defects.
  • Work in confined spaces as required.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate equipment in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner to produce required parts.
  • Flap and blend weld burns on the exterior and interior of tanks using electrical and pneumatic shop tools.
  • Buff outside heads and grind manhole covers and outlet pods using electrical and pneumatic shop tools.
  • Grind welds, deburr rough metal, and produce various finishes on metal.
  • Stone grind, peen, belt, flap, and blend seams on the inside of bottles using pneumatic shop tools.
  • Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices, including regard for individual safety, the safety of other team members, and the safe use of equipment and safeguards.
  • Wear approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and respirators.
  • Perform additional work as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Leader, which may require flexing into another department.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure.
  • Proficient with basic shop math.
  • Physical dexterity.
  • Ability to apply grinding techniques to a variety of parts using electrical and pneumatic shop tools.
  • Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and work as part of a production team.
  • Proficient and safe use of small shop machinery and hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Basic reading, writing, and verbal skills.

Qualifications

Experience and education are beneficial but not required. Training will be provided to prepare you for the production floor, including orientation and several days of hands-on instruction.

Working Conditions

The work environment may expose employees to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Noise levels can be very loud, and temperatures may vary. Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate tools or controls for the length of an entire shift.
  • Full range of motion in arms and hands is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow employees.
  • Frequently work in small spaces and lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and good hand-eye coordination.
