Grinder/ Polisher

About the role

This position is for a Grinder/Polisher, reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, and is a non-exempt, hourly role. The successful candidate will grind, smooth, and polish the surface of items such as equipment components prior to finishing operations.

Responsibilities

• Polishes stainless and cold rolled steel parts, removing excess material and surface defects.
• Selects grade of abrasive belt, disc or wheel according to grain size, type of finish specified and product being polished.
• Bead blasts steel parts to a consistent finish.
• Loads and unloads tumble deburring machine.
• Examines parts for acceptability of finish.
• Works from drawings and sketches or verbal instructions.
• May perform other duties common to grinding and polishing practices.

Requirements

• Must lift, carry and hold parts of various sizes, shapes and weights.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Must have good basic math skills.
• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Able to understand blueprints and use basic measuring instruments.
• General Education Diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs without assistance. Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 5 hours at a time. Must be able to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, climb and walk. Standing, walking, sitting, and bending for extended periods of time.
