Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of machine shop practices usually acquired through extensive on the job training and experience
- Journeyman (machining) or 8 years equivalent
- High degree of mechanical aptitude and print reading skills
- Ability to work independently and to manage one’s time effectively
- Knowledge/experience with other machines (lathe, mill, CNC set up/programming, surface grind, jig grind) is not required but is beneficial
- Understanding of individual contribution to the product conformity and product safety
- The importance of ethical behavior
Responsibilities
- Setting-up, operating and tending grinding
- Grinding applications will span cylindrical grinding, ID grinding & specialized tool/spindle grinding
- Planning and performing difficult grinding operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy
- Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling and operation sequence or select those prescribed in drawings, blueprints or layouts, using a variety of precision measuring instruments
- Maintains a workable supply of perishable tools required in the operation of machinery
- Affords assistance at other machines in Manufacturing when needed
