About the Program

The Graphic Design Program is a continuum of competency-based courses that provide instruction and practical experience in Graphic Design and Web Design. Emphasis is placed on basic design theory, applications software, and business opportunities. The competencies in all courses are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.

Courses

• Graphic Design: Fundamentals (180 hours)

  This competency-based course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in principles and techniques of print and web typography, color theory and use, illustration, logo design, branding, and image concepts through imaging software.

• Graphic Design: Digital Imaging (180 hours)

  This competency-based course covers the use of hardware, software, and peripherals to create and manipulate 2-dimensional images using input and output devices.

• Graphic Design: Advertising Design (180 hours)

  This competency-based course provides technical instruction in advertising principles, vector-based logo design, illustrations, desktop imaging and publishing, product presentation, and editing.

  This competency-based course provides technical instruction and practical experience in graphic formats, color applications, graphic software, composition and writing for websites, editing, online publishing, HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, and web page creation.

Additional Information

Separate costs for books, exams, supplies, preparation, certifications, and/or licenses provided by outside vendors may be incurred. Once a Certificate of Completion is earned in a course, that course cannot be repeated.
