Grants & Development Manager
About the role
The Road Home Dane County seeks a Grants & Development Manager to lead and grow key resource development activities that support life‑changing programs serving families and kids experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in the greater Madison, WI community. As a key part of a four‑person Development & Communications team, you will cultivate and steward involvement from a wide portfolio of supporters—including businesses, foundations, congregations, and other groups—to foster diverse, reliable streams of resources and empower supporters to have a real impact toward ending family homelessness. The role blends grants program management with fundraising from corporate and institutional entities and requires a passion for homelessness, affordable housing, and racial and economic justice.
Responsibilities
- Grants program management (50%): Lead The Road Home’s grants program (annual total $250,000–$400,000) in collaboration with the Development Director, Executive Director, and program leadership. Focus primarily on private grant funders while also supporting work with government and United Way funding sources.
- Corporate and community engagement (25%): Partner with the Development Director to execute a broad engagement program for donor/supporter entities, including financial donors, in‑kind donors, and volunteers. This portfolio overlaps with the grants portfolio.
- Development & Communications events and campaigns (25%): Collaborate closely with the Development Director, Communications Manager, and Business Manager on major projects that fall outside pure grants management or donor work, serving either in a support role or as project leader.
- Team participation, support, and leadership: While not managing staff directly, grow into a departmental and agency leader, supporting the development of principles such as philanthropy, ethical fundraising, anti‑racism, and a culture of belonging among all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Three or more years of grant writing/management experience (required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (required).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team (required).
- Five or more years of nonprofit fundraising or similar experience (strongly preferred).
