About the Role

This Grant Accountant opportunity offers the chance to join a stable, mission-driven nonprofit organization in a fully remote role supporting a significant portfolio of state and federal grants. You'll have ownership of assigned grants while gaining broad exposure to budgeting, financial analysis, reporting, and month-end close.

  • 100% remote position with no travel required
  • Flexible start time with the ability to choose a consistent schedule beginning at 7:00, 8:00, or 9:00 AM
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of approximately 12–15 state and federal grants
  • Broad accounting exposure beyond transactional processing, including budgeting, analysis, reporting, and month-end close
  • Collaborative accounting team within a stable, mission-driven organization

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of state and federal grants
  • Prepare and analyze grant budgets, budget-to-actual results, and financial reporting
  • Review grant-related expenditures and ensure costs are properly recorded and supported
  • Prepare journal entries and support monthly close activities
  • Perform account analysis and research accounting discrepancies or posting issues
  • Monitor grant activity to ensure financial information remains accurate and aligned with funding requirements
  • Partner with internal teams on grant-related accounting, budgeting, and reporting needs
  • Support financial analysis and other full-cycle accounting responsibilities as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; Finance degree considered with strong accounting experience
  • Hands-on grant accounting experience required
  • Full-cycle accounting experience required; candidates whose experience is primarily Accounts Payable will not be a fit
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, journal entries, and month-end close
  • Experience working with state and/or federal grants strongly preferred
  • Abila MIP or similar nonprofit accounting software experience preferred
  • Must currently reside in FL, TN, GA, NC, or SC
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements

$70,000 – $75,000
