Grain Handler Technician
About the role
This job is primarily responsible for working at a facility that loads and unloads barges and trucks. This is a general laborer position that performs a wide variety of duties that are based on the daily needs of the operation; may include cleaning and repair of barges.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
- Comply with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); wear appropriate PPE for tasks.
- Perform deckhand responsibilities such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges, etc.
- Perform barge loading duties such as loading barges to meet draft and quality requirements and oversee deckhands.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations, ensuring grain quality while stored and transferred.
- Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
- Perform general clean-up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other general housekeeping responsibilities.
- Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs, where applicable.
- May be responsible for unloading barges, cleaning barges, moving product to storage, loading trucks using heavy equipment, loading rail, loading products to required specifications, operating dryers, operating heavy equipment, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: None required, but 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record is preferred.

- Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements.
- Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret oral and written instructions, and troubleshoot problems.

Qualifications
- Physical Demands & Requirements: Ability to balance constantly/continuously, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, squat (constantly/continuously), frequently climb stairs and ladders, concentrate on task without distraction, distinguish grade, color, odor, and various damage characteristics in grain samples, distinguish odors with a degree of accuracy, enter information into a computer, grasp and reach frequently, lift/push/pull 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously, utilize all applicable PPE, pass PFT and fit testing, meet requirements of and utilize all applicable PPE, perform work in confined spaces, work on barge surfaces with ability to work around deep/swift water, work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts, work in environments with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products, work outside in extreme weather conditions, work rotating 12-hour shifts, including shifts during non-standard business hours that may include evening, nighttime, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours, be acutely aware of surroundings with ability to quickly adjust to signals or changes in environment, use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed, identify problems with grain.
- Environmental Conditions: Work environment may require frequent use of personal protective equipment, travel up to 20% of the time, and exposure to high dust levels around grain and other bulk products.

Pay
The expected base pay range for this role is $16.00 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience for the job.
Schedule
Rotating 12-hour shifts, including shifts during non-standard business hours that may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours (Convent, LA location only).
