About the Role

Perform a variety of painting functions on assigned grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Mix and blend paints according to established guidelines and perform related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, sand-blasting, or other necessary means.
  • Caulk, putty, cement, or plaster holes and cracks; cut and replace glass in windows and doors.
  • Mix, match, and blend enamels, lacquers, varnishes, stains, and special protective coatings to achieve desired color, consistency, and drying properties.
  • Paint assigned buildings, structures, equipment, and furniture using brushes, rollers, spray guns, or other paint applicators.
  • Perform basic sign painting functions utilizing stencils.
  • Enter graffiti data daily into a laptop computer.
  • Utilize graffiti removal equipment, including high-pressure steam washers (Hotsy), airless paint sprayers, and paint matching/mixing equipment.
  • May meet with business and residential owners to secure graffiti removal consent.
  • Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Perform rough carpentry duties as assigned.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of painting experience (education directly related to painting may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis).
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from the date of hire.

Working Conditions

  • Field environment with travel between sites.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, solvents, and potentially hazardous chemicals or materials.
  • Work at heights on scaffolding and ladders.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting; standing, bending, or kneeling for prolonged periods.
  • Operating motorized equipment and distinguishing colors.
  • May require work in unfavorable weather or environmental conditions.
  • Shift work or weekend work may be required.
