Graduate (Year-Round) Intern – Techno-Economic Impacts

About the role

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a graduate intern with experience in life cycle assessment and/or economics and finance to contribute to its Wind Energy Impacts and End of Service Technical Assistance project.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analysis to evaluate the economic, job, and workforce impacts of wind component processing and critical mineral recovery under varying timelines and scenarios
  • Research and analysis to identify current domestic processors and estimated capacity
  • Research and analysis to understand local impacts from increased deployment of new processing facilities and/or infrastructure
  • Research into life cycle assessment of component dependent processing approaches
  • Conducting outreach to component processors and other industry related subject matter experts
  • Developing resources and information material to support knowledge sharing between stakeholders
  • Assisting in writing quality reports analyzing various component processing scenarios
  • Conducting job and workforce analysis for various component processing scenarios
  • Supporting modeling and analysis on critical mineral and material recovery, collaborating with other researchers across NLR as appropriate
  • Leveraging engagement and analysis skills to gather stakeholder input related to component processing impacts
  • Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement and interviewing
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Prior experience applying research, methodologies, or frameworks for life cycle assessment
  • Demonstrated financial analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently with guidance from staff

Requirements

  • Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  • Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution
  • Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months
  • Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution
  • Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months
  • Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement and interviewing
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Prior experience applying research, methodologies, or frameworks for life cycle assessment
  • Demonstrated financial analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and independently with guidance from staff
