About the role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a dynamic and innovative engineer to join our team in Los Angeles, CA and Austin, TX. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and underground construction.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the development of tunnel designs, including shafts, linings, and underground structures
- Performing engineering calculations and support structural and geotechnical analysis
- Develop and review engineering drawings using CAD and modeling tools
- Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports, and design deliverables
- Contribute to internal design reviews and QA/QC processes
- Maintain organized design documentation and records
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, structural, civil)
- Participate in internal project meetings and track actions
- Prepare presentations and technical summaries

Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field
- Successful completion of EIT exam, or ability to take EIT exam within 12 months
- Demonstrated interest in your chosen field through previous internships, volunteering opportunities, or organization memberships
- Creative thinking skills, with a methodical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Proficient communication and presentation skills to engage confidently with clients and colleagues
- Resilient, solution-oriented mindset, with a focus on continuous growth and delivering value
- Able to build and maintain relationships and rapport with internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborative spirit and commitment to teamwork
- Knowledge in Soil Mechanics & Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology / Rock Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Structural Analysis, Underground Construction / Tunnel Engineering, Finite Element / Numerical Methods, Construction Methods & Temporary Works, Engineering Materials, Hydrogeology / Groundwater Engineering
