Graduate Student, Psychometrist

An immediate opening for an Hourly Graduate Student within the Division of Pediatric Neurology, Department of Pediatrics. Under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist, this role supports clinical research studies by administering and scoring standardized psychological test batteries for pediatric and adult participants with neuromuscular, neurological, and neurogenetic disorders.

Responsibilities

• Assessment and Data Collection
  • Administer and score standardized neuropsychological and psychological assessments to research participants, ensuring adherence to research protocols.
  • Score tests administered by psychologists and report findings for interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessment results, observations, and participant demographics.
  • Monitor and document participant compliance and engagement during research assessments.
• Research Coordination
  • Collaborate with principal investigators, clinicians, and research teams to develop and refine research protocols.
  • Assist in participant recruitment and scheduling, ensuring compliance with inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Coordinate logistics of data collection sessions, including preparation of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Ensure timely testing of research participants and communicate status updates to the psychologist and study team.
• Participant Interaction
  • Build rapport and establish a comfortable environment for research participants.
  • Explain research procedures clearly and address participant questions or concerns.
  • Ensure informed consent processes are followed and maintain participant confidentiality.
• Data Management
  • Organize and manage research data, including data entry, quality control, and secure storage.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to ensure accurate data coding and analysis.
  • Order, maintain security of, and transmit test materials.
• Research Ethics and Compliance
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, IRB, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, security, and availability of participant assessments and research records.
  • Model core organizational standards as defined by the University of Utah and the Department of Pediatrics.
• Reporting and Documentation
  • Assist in preparing research reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of research findings and development of research manuscripts.
• Training and Development
  • Stay informed about the latest research methods, assessment tools, and advancements in the field.
  • Attend training conferences offered by the department and external organizations, including research sponsors.
  • May provide training and supervision to research assistants or interns as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Current Graduate Student in Educational Psychology or Psychology.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
• This position is patient-sensitive and requires fulfillment of all associated requirements, including immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy.

Preferences

• Experience in administering psychological and neuropsychological assessments to adults and children.
• Background experience with micro-computers.
• Previous experience as a psychometrist.
• Strong organizational and data management skills.
• Willingness to learn test administration protocols.
• Knowledge of research ethics and regulations.
• Ability to operate independently and in teams, thrive in learning and clinical environments, and build positive relationships with research teams and participants.

Schedule

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May require flexible hours to accommodate research schedule: 4 – 8 hour shifts, weekdays, no nights or weekends. A reduced schedule of no less than 20 hours per week may be considered if supported by operational needs. The position is required to work onsite.

Pay

$17.00 to $21.63 per hour.

Ability to commute or relocate to the Salt Lake City, Utah area is required.
