About the role

The position works within the University of Utah's Division of Games' graduate program—a national leader in games and interactive media—to coordinate a diverse population of students regarding their academic planning and progress. This role assists the University in promoting a climate of respect that cultivates and sustains transformative practices by forging spaces of possibility where people feel safe, valued, and welcomed, supporting all students in their quest for individual success through graduate degree programs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative tasks to support graduate students, including record-keeping, data collection, data analysis, archiving, program of study coordination, website updates, scheduling, course-planning, and graduation tracking.
  • Actively participates in campus-based professional development communities, such as GAPA or other relevant organizations, including sub-committee participation.
  • Collects and disseminates information to students, faculty, and departments about changes in degree requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
  • May participate in search committees for new hires in the department, including both staff and faculty roles.
  • May participate in programming communities for students, such as overseeing a mentoring program or student organizations.
  • Advises on graduate committee development and may assign coursework for specific programs of study.
  • May provide curriculum feedback at the program level and submit department curriculum changes to university-wide curriculum tracking.
  • Serves as a power user for University-wide application review platforms, coordinating and organizing admission portfolios for graduate committees.
  • Participates in recruitment activities for potential graduate student candidates, processes graduate school applications, and coordinates interview processes with graduate committees.
  • Acts in partnership with faculty to coordinate scheduling exams or defenses and assists students with developing working relationships with faculty in the assigned program.
  • Participates in events management related to graduate programs, including graduate student orientation, graduate conferences, professional development events, open houses, visits by industry partners, and graduation.
  • With increased institutional knowledge, acts as a resource for graduate student roles and serves as a liaison between the department and the Graduate School on campus.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Pay

$45,450 to $55,550 per year.
