About the role
Participates in the design, execution, analysis, and evaluation of research projects directly aligned with the educational goals of the student and the Oceanographic Center. This position is subject to grant funding.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to basic and applied research activities.
- Performs a variety of tests, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
- May participate in the publication of significant results.
- Advances expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related science.
- Six (6) months experience working in a laboratory or scientific research environment.
- Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at the Oceanographic Center.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Database and data entry skills.
- Ability to utilize or learn new research software, methods, and routines quickly.
- Ability to attain required certification for applicable research program or project.
- Ability to read and comprehend reports and scientific literature.
- Ability to safely and effectively handle small boats.
- Must obtain a Florida Boating Safety Education Identification Card (FWC-issued) within three (3) days of hire if born on or after January 1, 1988 (per Florida state law).
