Graduate Assistant (Tutoring and Lab Assistants); 1st year Anatomy-FA 26

Gannon University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program seeks a Graduate Assistant to support first-year anatomy instruction and program operations. This role emphasizes student-centered learning, professionalism, and collaboration with faculty and peers.

About the role

Graduate Assistants work with program faculty and fellow GAs to facilitate open laboratory experiences, provide academic support, and assist with clinical practice opportunities. All GAs are expected to demonstrate professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and maintain student confidentiality while serving as leaders and representatives of the DPT Program.

Responsibilities

Fall Semester

• Enforce laboratory safety guidelines, including appropriate attire (long pants, closed-toed shoes, eye protection) and professional conduct during scheduled laboratory times.
• Complete cadaver dissections according to provided instructions.
• Coordinate open laboratory sessions for first-year anatomy students and ensure adherence to safety expectations.
• Maintain inventory of essential laboratory materials (nitrile gloves, dissection kits).
• Clean and disinfect all laboratory surfaces and tools following dissections and open laboratory sessions.
• Assist faculty with administrative tasks and other responsibilities as assigned.

Spring Semester

• Maintain physical therapy laboratory environments, including organization, set-up, clean-up, inventory, and laundry.
• Assist faculty with administrative tasks and other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Enrollment as a first-year student in the Gannon University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
• Successful completion of a cadaver-based anatomy course.
• Professionalism, dependability, and strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Graduate Assistant team.

Preferred Qualifications

• No history of academic or professional behavior probation.

Physical Demands

Fall Semester

• Work primarily in the human gross anatomy laboratory.
• Stand for extended periods and perform fine motor tasks associated with cadaver dissection.
• Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment.
• Comfort working in a cadaver laboratory and around chemical preservatives.

Spring Semester

• Work primarily in physical therapy teaching laboratories, classrooms, and office settings.
• Stand for extended periods and assist with laboratory set-up, organization, and routine tasks.
• Use standard instructional and office equipment.

Schedule

Part-time, 9-month position (academic year). 10 hours per week, with office hours scheduled based on candidate’s availability.
