Graduate Assistant - 2nd Year Anatomy - FA 26 (Tutoring and Lab Assistants)

Gannon University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program seeks a Graduate Assistant for second-year students. This role supports program operations, facilitates open laboratory experiences, provides academic support, and assists with clinical practice opportunities. Graduate Assistants collaborate with faculty and peers, demonstrate professionalism, and uphold program standards.

Responsibilities

Fall Semester

• Enforce laboratory safety guidelines, including appropriate attire (long pants, closed-toed shoes, eye protection) and professional conduct.
• Complete cadaver dissections per provided instructions and mentor first-year Graduate Assistants.
• Assist with open laboratory sessions for first-year anatomy students and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory materials (nitrile gloves, dissection kits).
• Clean and disinfect laboratory surfaces and tools after dissections and open sessions.
• Support faculty with administrative tasks, grading, and other assigned responsibilities.

Spring Semester

• Maintain physical therapy laboratory environments, including organization, setup, cleanup, inventory, and laundry.
• Provide academic support to first-year students as requested by faculty.
• Assist faculty with administrative tasks, grading, and other assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

• Enrollment as a second-year student in Gannon University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
• Successful completion of a cadaver-based anatomy course.
• Professionalism, dependability, and strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Capacity to work collaboratively within the Graduate Assistant team.

Preferred Qualifications

• No history of academic or professional behavior probation.

Physical Demands

Fall Semester

• Work primarily in a human gross anatomy laboratory.
• Stand for extended periods and perform fine motor tasks related to cadaver dissection.
• Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment.
• Comfort working in a cadaver laboratory and around chemical preservatives.

Spring Semester

• Work primarily in physical therapy teaching laboratories, classrooms, and office settings.
• Stand for extended periods and assist with laboratory setup, organization, and equipment use.

Position is part-time (10 hours/week), non-exempt, and spans 9 months (academic year). Schedule aligns with candidate availability during office hours.
