About the role

The Graduate Assistant - Sports Information will support media relations within Athletics, assist with preparation, writing, and distribution of articles, news, and feature recaps and releases for local media, general public, and internal community. They will also assist with Athletics multimedia efforts, plan, create, and draft publicity, advertising, and promotional activities or events for home athletic contests, collect, monitor, and maintain all necessary statistics for each sport as assigned, establish and maintain files and archives on the Mount Aloysius College Athletics program, provide requested general information to AMCC opponents and visiting teams, populate the Athletics webpage with news, statistics, and other information for all home and away varsity sporting events, and manage social media accounts for Athletics pages as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Supports media-relations within Athletics.
  • Reports scores; provides media with information and multimedia as requested/needed.
  • Affords assistance with preparation, writing, and distribution of articles, news, and feature recaps and releases for local media, general public, and internal community.
  • Affords assistance with Athletics multimedia efforts (schedule and implement photo sessions, in-game action photography, posting to web, live video broadcasts of games, etc.).
  • Plans, creates, and drafts publicity, advertising, and promotional activities or events for home athletic contests.
  • Collections, monitors, and maintains all necessary statistics for each sport as assigned.
  • Establishes and maintains files and archives on the Mount Aloysius College Athletics program.
  • Provides requested general information to AMCC opponents and visiting teams.
  • Populates Athletics webpage with news, statistics, and other information for all home and away varsity sporting events.
  • Manages social media accounts for Athletics pages as assigned. Promotes content such as home sporting events, news items, and photos/video.

Requirements

Applicants must be a current or prospective graduate student at Mount Aloysius College. Enrollment in one of the College’s Master’s degree programs is required. (Successful completion of Bachelor’s degree required.) Strong record of academic achievement as an undergraduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above required. Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as satisfactory undergraduate student conduct record required. Must be able to maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, and remain self-motivated. Prior experience assisting with sports information and/or athletics communications and/or sports journalism preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, student athletes/players, and recruits a must. Demonstrated familiarity with current social media platforms and effective problem-solving skills strongly desired. Ability to work independently and take initiative is highly valued. Knowledge of NCAA Division III and AMCC rules/regulations a plus. Must be willing and available to travel and work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays.

Benefits

This position is not eligible for benefits or remote work.

Pay

A modest stipend is awarded for hours worked, and is paid on an hourly rate basis.

Schedule

The Graduate Assistant must devote an average of 20 hours per week to their assigned duties during the semester for a total of 300 hours per semester.
