Job Summary

Performs routine scientific research utilizing fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization.

Education & Experience

  • Must be enrolled in graduate school at UMMC.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to design, organize and coordinate scientific research projects.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
  • Ability to comply with safety, environmental, and infections control standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts scientific research requiring judgement in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques.
  • Designs and performs experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Collections, analyzes and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
  • Operates equipment and performs new research procedures.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold.
  • Occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations.
  • Occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours.
  • Frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.
  • Occasional bending, lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, kneeling, crouching/stooping.
  • Occasional driving, twisting.
