General Summary
Provide support to the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Tutor in the Math Tutoring Lab
- Absorb and teach introductory undergraduate mathematics courses
- Support student learning and student retention in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Admission to the M.S. Mathematics Program or the M.S. Applied Statistics Program
- Maintenance of a 67% course completion
- Enrollment in at least 6 graduate credits in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics during the fall and winter semesters
- Ability to work 10 hours per week (50% graduate assistantship) or 20 hours per week (100% graduate assistantship)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong content knowledge in undergraduate mathematics (e.g., algebra, trigonometry, and/or introductory statistics)
- Ability to build rapport with students and create a supportive, inclusive learning environment
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive tutoring center culture
- Experience tutoring, teaching, or supporting students in an academic setting
- Awareness of challenges such as math anxiety and willingness to support students’ confidence and persistence
