About the role
The Grades Class Teacher (1-8) at Brooklyn Waldorf School is a vital member of our educational team, responsible for guiding students through their academic, social, and emotional development in alignment with Waldorf pedagogy. This role involves a long-term commitment to class teaching, including the possibility of looping with a class across multiple grade levels.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging main lessons aligned with Waldorf pedagogy and informed by equity-conscious teaching practices.
- Plan and deliver skills classes supporting foundational learning in literacy, math, and the arts.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs of students, in collaboration with learning support and specialty teachers.
- Collaborate with class and specialty teachers to support curriculum integration and school community life, including festivals and seasonal celebrations.
- Direct and produce a class play as part of the curriculum.
- Build strong, professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and prior teaching experience required.
- Waldorf teacher training preferred, or willingness to complete Waldorf training within the first few years of employment (professional development support available).
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Musical and artistic abilities preferred but not required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods, and use stairs regularly.
