About the role

The primary responsibility of the Grader Mechanic III is the maintenance and repair of the egg grader machine and related equipment to assure its optimal performance. The ultimate goal is to drive peak efficiencies in the egg washing, grading, and packaging process through fine-tuning of the grader machine and its operation. The Grader Mechanic III provides leadership and direction to Grader Mechanics I and II on the local team and shares best practices with grader mechanic teams at other Kreher Family Farms locations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to Maintenance Supervisor and Processing Manager requests for processing equipment repairs with urgency to ensure smooth operations.
  • Understand role in servicing the customer through efficiency and quality in equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Continually improve efficiencies and meet or exceed efficiency metrics by fine-tuning grader machine performance.
  • Collaborate with processing team leadership to improve SOPs and operator efficiencies.
  • Work effectively with QA Technicians and USDA Grader to ensure SQF compliance.
  • Visually inspect equipment to prevent future operator injuries.
  • Inspect for worn parts, order replacements, and install them.
  • Install new equipment as acquired.
  • Maintain required inventory of greases and oils for preventative maintenance.
  • Attend grader technical schools as offered.
  • Develop knowledge of equipment repairs and maintenance to ensure best practices.
  • Develop leadership skills and collaborate with processing and QA leadership.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and document work completed.
  • Maintain shop area and repair equipment.
  • Prioritize and complete job tasks and work orders efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to avoid accidents.
  • Communicate effectively with management and team members.
  • Act as a team player, respecting and supporting co-workers.
  • Cross-train within the department and assist in other areas as needed.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with Kreher Policies, Work Rules, and federal/state laws.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Expertise in the maintenance of egg grader machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Working knowledge of multiple maintenance areas.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of electronic controls.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Associates Degree or trade school certification in a maintenance-related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in plant equipment and machinery maintenance.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with the specific brand/model egg grading machine used at Kreher Family Farms.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, see, and hear.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, squat, and crawl.
  • Lift or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Work in confined spaces, often above shoulder level.
  • Close vision and ability to work at a computer monitor.
  • Long and irregular hours may be required.
