Grade Foreman

Supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors to assist in the installation and construction grading projects. Practices absolute confidentiality, exercises good judgment, and applies common sense in all duties.

Responsibilities

• Complies with all safety policies, procedures, and established safe practices; ensures compliance from all reporting employees.
• Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety & Health.
• Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of employees through safety meetings, one-on-one development, reminders, and disciplinary action if necessary.
• Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual (SSPM), including safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation, and employee observations.
• Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22; ensures reporting employees do the same.
• Reads and follows plans, material lists, and guidelines; applies necessary timelines.
• Fulfills all regular and advanced installation/construction duties, including project layout, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Organizes, supervises, leads, and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe.
• Submits crewmembers’ timesheets to payroll by the required deadline.
• Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provides leadership through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Enforces all client-required safety policies and procedures.
• Complies with all company policies and procedures, including crewmember discipline and documentation.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required; other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Current North Carolina Driver’s License.
• OSHA 10-hour certification preferred.
• Storm Water Supervisor Level II Certification preferred.
• Lane Closure Certification preferred.
• Trenching safety and confined space certification preferred.

Skills

• Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Basic personal computer skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Schedule

• Normal work hours are day or night shift, eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours, Monday through Friday.
• Weekend work may be required depending on the contract.
• Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required.
