About the role
The Grade Crew Laborer/Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment for groundwork and construction purposes. This employee will generally work in utility capacity by transferring from one task to another where demands are required.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights, safely and efficiently.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
- Assist construction crew with various duties such as shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing up dump trucks.
- Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.
- Lifts, carries, and holds material, tools, and supplies.
- Aids in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
- Performs daily safety checks of all equipment and site operations.
- Aids in Continuous Site Improvement through use of performance standards.
- Fulfills daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite as directed by the Foreman.
- Performs minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refers major problems to the supervisor.
- Performs daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Aids in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment to further their abilities.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Construction experience a plus.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required, up to 75% of the time.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Maintain current personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, talk, or hear.
- Sit, climb, and use hands to handle or feel.
- Sit, stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
