Key Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and transport equipment to move materials, unload/load trucks, and support daily plant operations.
  • Ensure a safe and efficient workplace while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety guidelines, and food safety practices.
  • Load/unload incoming and outgoing trucks, including grower shipments.
  • Prepare delivery receipts, shipping documents, and airway bills as needed.
  • Inspect and perform minor repairs/adjustments on equipment.
  • Aid with repairs and servicing of equipment.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, following all safety and food safety procedures.
  • Support utility crew operations, including repair/maintenance of treatment bins.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma preferred (not required).
  • One year of forklift driving experience required.
  • Previous experience in food handling or a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions (written and oral).
  • Strong teamwork, dependability, and adaptability.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in cold/hot environments.

Position Summary

The Plant Equipment Operator is responsible for operating forklifts and other transport equipment to move materials, unload/load trucks, and support daily plant operations. This role ensures a safe and efficient workplace while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety guidelines, and food safety practices.

Work Environment & Requirements

  • PPE (hair net, smock, sleeves, long pants, non-slip footwear) required.
  • Exposure to cold or hot environments and moving machinery.
  • Must adhere to Calavo’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for food safety and security awareness in daily duties.
  • Per Union Agreement.
