Job Summary

The Grade 4 Director at the JSYEC is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the Grade 4 Room after-school and summer programming for children in grades 4. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, age-appropriate programming that aligns with the Boys & Girls Club mission and youth development approach while maintaining a safe, structured, and engaging environment.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of engaging, age-appropriate programming for members in grades 4.
  • Design program schedules that balance academic support, physical activity, leadership development, enrichment activities, and social-emotional growth.
  • Ensure programming aligns with the BGCGM youth development approach and organizational goals.
  • Oversee and support structured daily lesson plans and activity implementation by program staff.
  • Develop and implement summer programming that meets the developmental needs of upper elementary members.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful climate for youth development.
  • Ensure members actively participate, feel supported, and receive care, recognition, and guidance.
  • Administer and oversee an effective member behavior management system with consistent documentation and follow-through.
  • Meet with parents/guardians as necessary to discuss member progress, concerns, or behavioral matters.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time program staff for the Grade 4 Room and summer programming.
  • Develop and monitor staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and supervision ratios.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to staff.
  • Ensure staff follow program plans, safety procedures, documentation requirements, and behavior management protocols.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and positive team culture.
  • Maintain energy and alertness in a high-energy, youth-centered environment.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for members.
  • Collaborate with the MSCC leadership team to support center-wide initiatives, events, and family engagement efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience working in early childhood or elementary youth programming (after-school, recreation, or camp setting).
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Must maintain active personal automobile insurance with minimum liability coverage.
  • Must pass criminal background and drug screening.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage program expenses and adhere to budget guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young people, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in high-stress situations.
  • Flexibility with work hours to meet program and operational needs, including school-year, summer, and vacation programming.
  • Regular attendance required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Actively supervise and participate in recreational and educational activities indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintain energy and alertness in a high-energy, youth-centered environment.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
  • Lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing 50 pounds.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Use general office equipment including phones, copiers, and computer systems.

30 hours a week
Monday through Friday
12pm-7pm
