Grab Crane Operator
Description
Able to direct the operation of the crew assigned to his equipment
Operates Grab Crane to excavate slurry-supported trenches to required depth, verticality and alignment.
Responsible for the daily checks, daily maintenance and documentation of the equipment operated.
Coordinates with slurry plant technicians and other teams to maintain excavation in a safe manner and meet quality standards of the company.
Informs Superintendent or site mechanic of malfunctioning equipment or equipment related problems.
Ensures that all Nicholson and OSHA safety regulations are followed and enforced, responsible for safety on site.
Attends and participates at safety meetings.
Ensures that all Nicholson quality standards are met.
Responsible for maintaining daily drill logs and equipment inspection forms and excavation records.
Ensures that the work performed is built to the plans, specifications and the level of quality expected of Nicholson.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
OSHA 10-hour Safety Course
Crane certification (NCCCO or equivalent) preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of construction experience, 2 years of which must have been as a Grab Crane Operator (cable-grab or hydraulic-grab) excavating slurry wall trenches.
Experience operating crawler cranes is required.
Experience on diaphragm wall and deep foundation projects is required.
Knowledge And Abilities
- Proven ability to operate Grab Crane equipment safely and efficiently.
Understanding of slurry wall excavation techniques, slurry usage, and verticality control.
Thorough understanding of lifting operations and hoisting safety.
Understands equipment operating systems and instrumentation (mechanical and hydraulic).
Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems under field conditions.
Ability to read and understand excavation plans.
Physical Requirements
- Reaching high and low, stooping, and bending continually
Lifting/carrying/moving up to 100 pounds continually
Able to travel per the Nicholson travel policy
Requires a high degree of concentration in a busy and noisy construction environment
Requires working in all types of weather
