About the role
Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is hiring a GPS Survey Technician for a multi-year project with a well-known energy company. The role involves performing land surveys, preparing the site for surveying, setting up and operating survey equipment, and creating topographical maps.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the project site for surveying as needed.
- Unload and set up survey equipment, perform surveying, and load equipment after duties.
- Place grade stakes showing point number, offset, station number, cut/fill, and elevation.
- Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment, including Total Station, Prism, Level, GPS base unit, and Rover.
- Measure distances between specific survey points and record data for entering into surveying software.
- Create topographical maps of project sites using survey data.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment to ensure it remains in good working order.
- Download digital images and data from survey equipment into surveying software.
- Observe excavating activities and notify supervisors of any deviations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of topographic surveys, Civil construction drawings, specifications, profiles, & details, construction surveying, and construction layout for water, sewer, and storm drainage.
- Proficient with computer systems including MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Preferred - Strong understanding of surveying mathematics, data adjustment, surface models, analyzing quality of data, and processing data.
- Preferred – Basic understanding and proficiency utilizing AutoCAD.
- Detail-oriented and able to deal with problems involving several variables in non-standard situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal correspondence.
- Able to prioritize tasks according to urgency.
- Able to work independently or within a team environment.
- Able to use email, smart phone, tablet, or computer to manage company information and documents.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
