GPS Field Technician
General Summary
The GPS Technician supports field operations by ensuring accurate layout, elevations, and grading using GPS and surveying equipment such as Machine controls, Total Stations, and Drones.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Configure GPS base stations, rovers and automated machine controls on heavy earthmoving and paving equipment.
- Perform grade checking to verify elevations, slopes, and alignment according to project plans.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot GPS equipment, total stations, and laser levels.
- Interpret blueprints, site plans, and staking information.
- Set and verify control points, hubs, and offsets.
- Communicate grade and layout information clearly to operators and field crews.
- Maintain daily records of measurements and site activities.
Education
- A high school diploma or GED, preferred.
Work Experience
- 2 years of experience in grade checking, surveying, or GPS Machine Control, Total Stations and/or Tablet Data Collector.
- Experience working with Trimble GPS, Topcon, or similar.
- Drone License Part 107, preferred.
- Experience utilizing Civil 3D design software to complete project needs.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.
- Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
- Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
- Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
Physical Demands
- Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
