Join Southern California Edison (SCE) as a Government Relations Manager/Public Affairs Advisor and help build a better tomorrow by supporting engagement plans that drive favorable policy and infrastructure project outcomes in the San Gabriel Valley and parts of the broader Los Angeles region. This role focuses on safely delivering reliable, clean, and affordable electricity through relationship-building, stakeholder collaboration, and advocacy.

This position requires hybrid work, with employees reporting to an SCE facility for a set number of days and working remotely on the remaining days. The role may involve up to 20% travel within the SCE service area. Employees must work and reside in the state of California.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with government officials and maintain existing relationships; lead strategic relationship-building projects for select SCE initiatives.
  • Propose and shape discussion topics relevant to business activities; interact directly with government officials at gatherings.
  • Prepare and proofread correspondence, forms, and documents; coordinate communication from the Government Affairs office to internal stakeholders on strategic initiatives, agency actions, and legislative proposals.
  • Manage sections or specific aspects of reports, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to LDA and FEC guidelines.
  • Draft reports for the corporate office and briefing notes for senior management on issues impacting company operations and project developments.
  • Develop policy content with coherence and consistency; engage with internal and external stakeholders to refine content.
  • Streamline administrative processes associated with managing the office.
  • Support outreach to industry lobbying coalitions on priority issues.
  • Participate in the Incident Management Team (IMT) to support emergency response and business continuity efforts, including:
    • On-call availability on a rotating basis (approximately every four to six weeks).
    • Ability to work extended hours (up to 12-hour shifts) during IMT activations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Readiness to report in person to the Irwindale location on short notice.
    • Completion and maintenance of required IMT training and qualifications.
    • Performance of assigned IMT duties, which may differ from regular responsibilities.
  • Ensure the protection of SCE’s physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and manage sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or community relations.
  • Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Effective decision-making, results delivery, and team-building abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong ethics, people skills, and the ability to manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of initiative and ability to collaborate effectively with partners to drive solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Ability to handle and support multiple projects concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Political Science, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience working closely with local governments and agencies in the San Gabriel Valley, City of Los Angeles, or Los Angeles County.
  • Experience managing candidate, ballot measure, and/or issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Experience managing infrastructure and public outreach activities.
  • Experience in the energy industry.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize, and recommend ideas and concepts to senior management in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
  • Experience engaging with key stakeholders and building community engagement plans.
