St. Therese Catholic Academy (STCA) seeks an Elementary Choir teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This part-time, self-contained role is part of our specialist team, focusing on teaching Choir to Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The position emphasizes the gospel diaspora's influence on Gospel Music within a Catholic elementary school setting.
STCA is a Preschool-8th grade Catholic school located in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood, two miles east of downtown. Founded in 1927, the school serves 135 students ages 3-14, with 35% receiving free or reduced lunch. Over 60% of families receive tuition assistance, and students commute from over 32 zip codes to join this diverse, faith-filled community.
About the Role
The Choir Teacher will work with Kindergarten through 5th grade students to develop vocal skills, mental strength, and an appreciation for music. Responsibilities include teaching Catholic Gospel songs and contemporary music where appropriate, leading weekly liturgies (prayer services or Mass), and collaborating with colleagues through the PLC process to implement creative ideas.
Responsibilities
- Teach weekly Choir classes to K-5 students.
- Instruct students in Catholic Gospel songs and contemporary music.
- Lead weekly school liturgies (prayer services or Mass).
- Plan and direct concerts and performances.
- Collaborate with staff through joint planning and PLC processes.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Manage classroom behavior and foster a positive learning environment.
Requirements
- Preferred: Active Catholic.
- Bachelor’s degree in music or music education.
- Experience directing choirs or teaching children.
- Ability to read and teach music notation.
- Piano or keyboard accompaniment skills.
- Knowledge of healthy vocal technique.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Experience planning concerts and performances.
- Ability to work well with elementary-aged children and families from diverse backgrounds.

Pay
Salary range: $20,000–$30,000, determined by internal equity, market data, applicant skills, experience, degrees, and certifications.
