About the role
The Lansing School District seeks to hire a music teacher who will provide world-class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will align with the district's mission and values, possess a JX certification, and have previous teaching experience in an urban setting.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate passion for and expertise in music
- Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
- Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
- Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
- Work alongside other teachers, parents, and students to ensure the best education experience for all students
- Perform other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education or in music practice
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a specialty endorsement (JX, JQ)
- Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
- Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces
- Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families
- May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties
- Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students
- Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication
- Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
